Candidates for substitute positions must hold an Illinois professional educator license (PEL) or substitute teaching license to serve as a substitute teacher.
A substitute teaching license, valid for substitute teaching in grades PreK-12 in any county in Illinois, may be issued to individuals who hold a bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
