Northwood e-Learning

    Hello Northwood families, 

    We hope this finds you healthy, happy, and excited for school to be starting back up, even if it is on the virtual end.   

    As we embark on this eLearning journey, we wanted to structure and organize learning content in a way that is easily accessible to both you as parents, and the students. By now, our students have familiarized themselves with Canvas, but this may be new to you. To make things more accessible we have created grade level documents that contain teacher plans and student assignments. 

    Each teacher is developing an individual document with their lesson plans that will be available to you through the grade level eLearning plans linked below.  

    Each teacher plan will contain the following information:

    • Learning Target
    • What do I do?
    • Where do I turn this in?
    • Where do I go if I have questions?
    • Tips for Success
    • Class Communication/Call In Time 

    In each grade level eLearning plan, you will be able to see all of your students’ teachers and click on the link to their weekly plans. We appreciate your patience as teachers create, update, and make changes to their plans for the week as this is all new to them as well.  

    As the district’s letter indicated, we will be running on a block schedule so students can focus on a limited number of their classes each day. This also allows for more teacher directed lessons and for them to be more available to answer questions to support students through the learning process.  We strongly encourage students to be checking their email and logging into Canvas for their specific courses each day. 

    During this time our social workers, nurse, and office staff will also be available via email if you have any concerns or questions for them. The staff directory on our school's website contains links to our staff emails and is linked here. 

    We understand that each and every one of your families are dealing with different things during this time. We want you to know that we are here to support your students. We hope that the lessons provided help in keeping them engaged in their learning as they prepare for the next level. In addition, we hope that the lessons help our students stay connected to our school community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the Northwood staff for support.

    Hola familias de Northwood,

    Esperamos que se encuentren saludable, feliz y emocionados de que la escuela comience nuevamente, incluso si es virtualmente.

    A medida que nos embarcamos en este viaje de eLearning (aprendizaje virtual), queríamos estructurar y organizar el contenido de aprendizaje de una manera que sea fácilmente accesible, tanto para ustedes como los para los estudiantes. Por ahora, nuestros estudiantes se han familiarizado con Canvas, pero este método puede ser nuevo para ustedes. Para hacer las cosas más accesibles, hemos creado documentos a nivel de grado que contienen planes de maestros y tareas de estudiantes.

    Cada maestro desarrolló un documento individual con planes de lecciones que estarán disponibles para usted a través de los planes de eLearning a nivel por grado que están vinculados a continuación.

    Cada plan de maestro contiene la siguiente información:

    En cada plan de eLearning de grado adecuado, podrá ver a todos los maestros de sus alumnos y hacer clic en el enlace a los planes semanales. Agradecemos su paciencia mientras los maestros crean, actualizan y hacen cambios a planes para la semana, ya que esto también es nuevo para ellos. 

    Como lo indica la carta del distrito, correremos en un horario de bloque para que los estudiantes puedan concentrarse en un número limitado de sus clases cada día. Esto también permite más lecciones dirigidas por el maestro y que estén más disponibles para responder preguntas para apoyar a los estudiantes a través del proceso de aprendizaje. Recomendamos a los estudiantes que revisen su correo electrónico e inicien sesión en Canvas para sus cursos específicos cada día.

    Durante este tiempo, nuestros trabajadores sociales, enfermeras y personal de oficina también estarán disponibles por correo electrónico, si tiene alguna inquietud o pregunta para ellos.   • Message from Superintendent Moan - April 2, 2020


    Dear District 200 Middle School Families:

    I would like to again thank you for your support and patience during this difficult time for all of us.  As you may be aware, Governor Pritzker has extended our school closure through April 30.  

    This week we have continued our eLearning, and we are thrilled to see our teachers and students engaging with each other.  We will continue developing our eLearning plans in the coming weeks, and we appreciate the efforts of our students and our parents to stay active in education.  

    At this point the State of Illinois has cancelled all state assessments for this year.  Middle school students will not be taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness or the Illinois Science Assessment. 

    Our grading plan for eLearning is provided below, our plan keeps all student grades at the same point they were on March 13 and gives a P for passing for all work done during eLearning, if students do not participate in eLearning they will receive an I for incomplete and will have eight weeks from the end of the quarter to make up work to receiving a passing grade for the quarter.  If you have any questions please contact the school or my office.  

    WCUSD #200 Curriculum, Assessment, and Grading Guidance for all 6th-8th Grade Students during eLearning

    Grading System for 6th - 8th Grade Students

    Woodstock CUSD 200 will be following the guidelines put forth by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) on grading and educational activities. This means that all students’ letter grades at the end of 3rd quarter will remain intact.  For the exploratory classes, final rotation 4 grades will be determined by work that was assigned through March 13.  This means that all students’ letter grades as of March 13 will remain intact and during the 4th quarter, assignments entered after March 13 and all of rotation 5, grades will move to Passing (P) or Incomplete (INC) for all coursework and educational activities. Students may receive an Incomplete (INC) if they don’t participate in eLearning.  Based upon successful completion of eLearning content, a students’ final overall grades could be improved, but cannot decrease.  

    • All students are expected to participate in eLearning, which includes attending virtual class and continue their education with learning opportunities assigned by the teacher.  
    • Students who participate in their learning will receive a grade of (P) for each class and educational activity.  
    • Students who do not participate in online learning will receive an Incomplete (INC) grade for any assignment not completed. Students who receive an Incomplete (INC) will have the opportunity to work with their teacher to receive a (P) Passing grade.   
    • If a student does not satisfactorily engage with eLearning, they will be issued an Incomplete (I) for that course’s fourth quarter grade. They will be provided an eight week window to take part in educational activities to change the grade to a (P) Passing grade.  

    Extra Credit 

    Teachers have the option to offer extra credit to students during eLearning.  

    Middle School Final Course Grades

    The student’s final course grade will be determined by the average of the 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, and 3rd quarter grade. The grade of Passing (P) or Incomplete (I) will be issued for the fourth quarter. Students who receive an Incomplete (I) during the fourth quarter will be provided an 8-week window to take part in educational activities to change the grade to a (P) Passing grade.  Building administration will work with students in the eighth week remediation period after the end of fourth quarter.   Based upon successful completion of eLearning content a students’ final overall grades could be improved, but cannot decrease.
