AP Data Shows WHS Leading the Way in McHenry County
We consider ourselves a leader in AP programming in McHenry County. The following information will give you confidence about why we are so proud of what we have accomplished in this area.
The development of our AP program is the primary reason our school was identified by U.S. News and World report as one of the top schools in the nation and the highest ranked school in McHenry County by receiving their Silver distinction. Accomplishing all that we have is neither easy nor common—it’s why we placed on the list where we are amongst schools with vastly different demographics than ours.
Each year The Washington Post ranks America's Most Challenging High Schools using a simple ratio: the number of Advanced Placement tests given in a school year divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year.

About the WHS AP / Capstone Program
Woodstock High School has an outstanding reputation as a leader in Advanced Placement (AP) in Northern Illinois. In addition to one of the broadest selection of offerings in McHenry County, we also have a number of teachers who serve the College Board as test readers.
Our faculty believes so strongly in AP courses that the successful completion of two AP courses, or two capstone courses identified by each department, meets one of the requirements of our Woodstock Cum Laude graduate status. Students from WHS consistently score well above the national average on the AP exams. In addition to having a growing number of students taking tests, a very high percentage of our students earned a 3 or higher on their exam.
