Building Use
Scheduling & Fees
District 200 supports the use of school facilities by community organizations during non-school hours provided that the activity does not interfere with any school function, the safety of students or employees, or affect the property or liability of the school district. Energy Reduction
District 200 is continuously striving to be a responsible energy consumer, and to make decisions that support reducing consumption and protecting our environment.
All D200 buildings participate in a monthly “power hour” during which all non-essential energy-consuming items are turned off.
The Great Energy Reduction Challenge is a competition among schools who compete to win $500 by demonstrating a reduction in electrical, waste, gas, and water usage.
Additional recognition will be earned by schools who successfully encourage staff and family members to reduce as well.
Following are suggestions for ways to make a difference:
- Use the newspaper dumpsters at each school to collect paper produces and cardboard. This earns the building money, while also reducing waste that goes to landfills out of the county. At home, recycle newspapers, glass and cans.
- Only use lights when absolutely necessary
- Turn off computers and other electrical devices when not in use
- Unplug appliances, including vending machines, over vacations and weekends if not in use
- Use programmable devices to turn off lights and reduce heat/cooling
- Take shorter showers
- Water early in the morning or in the evening to reduce evaporation
- Increase the number of power hours at your building
Participate in waste-free lunches, TREX Challenge and locker cleanouts - Construct a compost or worm bin for organic waste
Green Cleaning
Woodstock Community Unit School District 200 is fully compliant with the Green Cleaning standards in Illinois. We have worked closely with the Schools of the Illinois Public Cooperative to complete this manual and have had numerous training sessions to ensure that it is fully implemented. See the link below to view our manual.
Water Testing
Illinois law requires school districts to test all “potable” (suitable for drinking) water sources for lead content. These water sources include drinking fountains and sinks used in food preparation. The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has determined that acceptable levels of lead cannot exceed 15 parts per billion (ppb). However, Illinois has set a limit of 5 ppb for schools serving children in grades PreK – Grade 5.
The new State of Illinois law requires school districts to provide parents and/or guardians written notice of test samples that exceed 5 ppb and to include the District’s plan to mitigate any sources that exceed that limit. The vast majority of the district’s water sources tested below 5 ppb. 99% of the district’s water sources tested below the State limit of 5 ppb. The District will continue to monitor water sources in accordance with the State of Illinois law.
For more information regarding lead in drinking water, please consult the EPA’s website.
A district summary, as well as a summary of results by school are listed below. For schools built after January 1, 2000, testing was not required.
Greenwood School does not have lead service lines in the water system. Documentation can be found in the main office. For specific questions regarding Greenwood and/or other D200 schools, please contact the Director of Buildings & Grounds.
