AP & Dual Credit
District 200 students can take a variety of courses to complete high school graduation requirements while also earning early college credit. These include Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses, in addition to other opportunities.
Advanced Placement Courses
AP Courses
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are rigorous, college-level courses aligned with skills and experiences, culminating in an annual examination process developed by the College Board. District 200 offers more than 30 Advanced Placement courses. See the High School Curriculum Guide (linked below) for details on available courses.
Students can benefit by enrolling in AP courses. These courses provide students with college-level instruction, opportunities to earn college credit, reduce college costs, and shorten the time needed to earn a degree.
In May the College Board gives a comprehensive exam for each AP course. This exam lasts approximately 3 hours and covers the entire course curriculum. AP exam results are available in early July and students earn a score from 1 to 5. A score of 3 or above is considered passing. Each college/university determines how much college credit they will grant based on the student’s score. Most university’s websites will detail what credit is offered according to the scores earned. The College Board also has a website that can be used to help determine how colleges and universities accept AP exam scores (see links below).
AP Exams are mandatory
All WHS and WNHS students enrolled in an AP course are required to take the AP exam in May. Students must receive an administrative exemption if they plan to remain in their AP course and not test. If a student receives this exemption they will be allowed to remain in the class, but will not receive the honors level GPA increase. Woodstock Community Unit School District 200 is committed to students realizing their academic potential without setting up financial barriers. For families that can demonstrate financial need, support may be available to subsidize the cost of each exam.
AP Testing Accommodations
Students with documented disabilities may be eligible for accommodations on AP exams. Please contact your counselor if accommodations are needed, and refer to the College Board website for further information.
AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. Colleges use these scores to award college credit and/or advanced course options. Community colleges and public universities in Illinois guarantee credit for scores of 3 or higher. Every college and university outside Illinois awards credit differently based on each AP score. See the link below to the AP college credit search, which will provide additional information on how credit is awarded at colleges and universities throughout the United States.
The D200 AP Coordinators are available to help. Do not hesitate to reach out to them with any questions or concerns.

Dual Credit Courses
D200 Dual Credit Courses
Dual credit courses are rigorous, college-level courses that allow high school students to earn college credits while in high school. District 200 offers over 35 dual credit courses through a McHenry County College (MCC) partnership.
Dual credit courses provide students with college-level experiences while reducing the cost and time for earning a post-secondary degree. Students can earn early college credit in both core and elective subject areas, which helps to prepare students for post-secondary success and highlights academic areas of interest. Dual credit courses are recorded on each student's high school transcript and the student's college transcript at MCC.
Dual credit courses are taught at the high school by qualified District 200 teachers who have completed the academic coursework to become dual credit certified. A list of dual credit courses in District 200 and current information regarding high school/college alignment, credits, and required prerequisites is available in the High School Curriculum Guide.
Please call or email your school counselor with questions regarding dual credit courses.

TRANSFERING DUAL CREDIT COURSES TO A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY
Students who have completed dual credit courses must send their MCC college transcripts to each college/university to have their transcripts evaluated. The D200 high school transcripts will not award you college credit. All students must request from MCC that their college transcript be sent to their future college/university.
Log into your myMCC account and follow the prompts. See the transcripts page of the MCC website for additional information on the transcript request process. If you have questions about ordering a transcript, please contact MCC at 815-455-8588.
Transferology is a service designed to facilitate the transfer of college credits. Within Transferology, you can discover how courses transfer between colleges/universities, how courses satisfy degree requirements, and what majors colleges/universities offer.
Dual Credit Processes & Fees
Mchenry County College (MCC) mails dual credit course billing statements to students' home addresses in November for students enrolled in fall semester dual credit courses. (Yearlong and spring classes will be billed in the spring term.) Students participating in the federal free and reduced lunch program will not be sent a billing statement. The IRS requires MCC to collect data from all students without a social security number (SSN) on file so they can adequately report each student's tuition, fees, or scholarships on their 1098T Form. It is not a requirement for the 1098T Form to be completed and submitted for the student to earn college credit for their dual credit course(s). If you have questions about the 1098T Form or billing process, please contact the MCC at (815)479-7549 for additional information.
