Tyler Carlson, Assistant Principal
Dear Creekside students and families:
Greetings! I am so excited to be joining your school community this year. It is an honor and a privilege to join a school that has such a proud tradition of success and achievement centered around a fantastic staff and a caring community. As a first step to getting to know you, I’d like to share a little bit about me as a person and as an educator. In addition to being the Assistant Principal at Creekside, I am also a father to Emmett (6) and Grant (3) and husband to Liz. They keep me busy with each daily adventure. I’m always happy to share pictures and stories, so I welcome the opportunity to meet with students, families, and staff. For better or worse, I’m a diehard Chicago sports fan--Cubs, Bulls, and Bears--so feel free to commiserate with me!
As an educator, I have worn a variety of hats throughout my career including teaching a wide range of English classes at Dundee-Crown High School as well as working with their Alternative Learning Opportunity Program. I have most recently been a Dean of Students at DeKalb High School where I worked with students to grow academically and socially-emotionally. The opportunity to transition to the middle school model for education that allows for an even greater focus on the network of support for learners to grow is an honor and a privilege I look forward to embracing at Creekside Middle School.
Throughout my time in education, I have consistently been driven by two core beliefs: all students can learn and all students can be successful. It is my responsibility to work with students, families, and staff to ensure those beliefs become the expectation and outcome for each and every student, each and every day. I want to help students reach their fullest potential as learners and as people and will work with them to embrace that opportunity. As a building leader, I will learn and grow alongside staff to ensure each classroom creates experiences that unlock every student’s immense potential. To do so, we will ensure equity, embrace growth-mindset, collaborate to move forward together, and step beyond our comfort zones into the places where impactful learning happens.
I look forward to working with everyone this year and relish this opportunity to be part of the Creekside school community. I look forward to being your partner in education and on this path of growth through each student’s three years at Creekside. Mostly, I look forward to working with each student, family, and staff member daily as we embark on the 2021-2022 school year with a heart full of Falcon Pride!
