School closings due to severe weather, emergencies, or other conditions that may affect the safety of our students and staff are announced through a variety of channels. Instant messages are sent by phone and by email to all parents and employees though the school district’s automated messaging system, Connect-ED. In addition, announcements are publicized on this website and on major local and Chicago radio and television stations. Every effort is made to make these announcements as soon as a decision is made.
Parents and the public are encouraged to check these sources early when bad weather is predicted and to check again in case the information is missed the first time. Please DO NOT call the school to inquire about possible closings. A decision to close schools covers one school day only. New announcements will be made each day if the situation continues. District 200 studies a number of factors when considering whether or not to cancel. Weather conditions may vary in different locations around the district. Ultimately, the decision as to whether a student is kept home during inclement weather is the parent’s.
