Woodstock School District 200

Bass Fishermen Take Sectional Trophy!

Congratulations to the D200 Bass Fishing Club!  On May 8th, Mathew Fallaw and Jason Conrad of Woodstock North High School earned the First Place title in the Sectional Tournament on the Fox Chain O' Lakes.   The Bass Fishing Club gives high school students the opportunity to learn about many aspects of bass fishing. Students in the club gain a multi-disciplinary understanding of how bass fishing works. Students learn about the physics, biology, chemistry, and earth science associated with bass fishing. Students also learn about common boating safety and etiquette.

Bass fishing is recognized as an IHSA activity. This includes a Sectional and State Tournament. Students compete to catch five of the biggest bass. The top three teams to bring in the largest weight in the sectional tournament advance to the State Finals in Carlyle, IL. Students then compete in a two-day tournament for a chance to be the state champions.  Matthew and Jason will advance to the State competition, which was originally scheduled for May 19 and 20.  However, high water warnings have caused a temporary postponement.  The IHSA will announce the revised dates as soon as they are available.
